Backtagging: Always!
Threadhopping: I never have a problem with it, but whoever I'm threading with might, so I always go with "ask" on this one.
Fourthwalling: Go for it. Though Midnighter hasn't gotten up to it yet, his team does find out their comic book characters in another world (it's hinted at that it's ours), and he's been through so much multiverse crap he really won't blink an eye at it.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): None, really.

Hugging this character: If you're under 12, you're fine. If you're over 12 and your name isn't "Apollo", start running. Though I'm always for any sort of shenanigans, just know that will be his reaction.
Kissing this character: See above and below. Go for it if you're under 12. If you're over 12 and feeling brave, go for it and see what happens. I can guarantee it won't be good.
Flirting with this character: You can if you want, but he's a happily married man and will either reject you or punch you in the face if you get too annoying.
Fighting with this character: Midnighter's always up for a fight, but if you are going to fight with him, see the permissions thing below.
Injuring this character: I'm always up for Midnighter to get himself hurt, but between his powers and his limited healing ability it's hard to say. Talk to me and we can run through it.
Killing this character: It really depends on the situation, so ask me.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go for it.

Midnighter was given a lot of enhancements and several abilities when he received his implants from Henry Bendix. Some of them make RPing the bastard a little difficult. So I'm asking that you fill this out so I don't step on any toes with Midnighter's abilities.
Ability Sensing: Midnighter has the fun ability to "sense the increased electrical activity" in the brains of others, which apparently is what happens when your characters have special abilities (according to him). So basically if they have powers, Midnighter can "see" and identify them, even if they aren't using them. He simply senses that they're there (ex. just by looking at Storm from the X-Men, he'll know she has the ability to manipulate the weather even if she's just sitting there doing a crossword).
He might not have a word to describe it (in a DR, he called Kon's TTK a forcefield, for example, though he knew what it could do), he will know how it works.
Basically, this so his battle precog can function better (the battle precog isn't working right in Portes and for my sanity it will be on the fritz at A_Fac as well, which is the only reason I haven't included it in the permissions post) and he can kill them faster.
Don't worry, he won't be using this ability to kill them (unless they really piss him off, and even then it will be discussed with you first).
Fourth Walling: In The Authority, pop culture references are abound. Angie/the Engineer is a huge DC nerd, Apollo's watched Friends, the Doctor's quoted Star Wars, they've all been on Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, etc. As a result, I'm lead to believe that though not identical to our world (superpowers, different presidents, China not occupying Tibet, etc), their pop culture is similar if not the same. Midnighter doesn't exactly strike me as a pop culture junkie, but he will recognize you if you're say Kim Kardashian, but not if you're Khloe's boyfriend (actually, he won't because I don't think they were famous before either canon point, but whatever).
He's also been around the multiverse enough to not be blatantly obvious about it, though he may express surprise upon seeing your characters face or accidentally use your characters name when your character hasn't introduced themselves... something of that nature. For example, if you're playing Charles Foster Kane, he's not going to tell him that he's going to end up dying all alone in his decaying mansion crying for his sled unless he really pisses him off, and even then that would be after getting your express permission, but he might call him Charles or Kane before he introduces himself.
Basically I ask you specify how much you'd like your character to be identified, if at all (ex. his thought bubbles can indicate he recognizes the character but not say anything to the effect/he can have a minor slip up like saying his name but nothing more/not allowed to fourth wall at all/go nuts/etc).
This is primarily for characters in western fandoms, but if you're playing someone from something easily recognizable from anime/manga (Ash from Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Goku from DBZ), it applies to them too.
Portes: Midnighter's canon point is around 2004/2005, so if your canon is after that, this doesn't apply to your character at all (just say n/a).
A_Fac:Midnighter's canon point is around 2008, so if your canon is after that, this doesn't apply to your character at all just say n/a).
